Travis Eddy, Car # 78 - The Top Speed ICAR Modified Winner.

Derrick Griffin

It was a great day of racing at Lucas Oil Raceway with 28 of the best modifieds in the midwest. With Chad Poole being the fast of the day at 23.191 he pulled a 12 after the draw putting Scotty Tomasik on the poll Dave Christianson next to him. With the drop of the green Dave would jump out front and by the time they got back to the start line Scotty took the first lap. Not long after Jeff Lane took the point working through the traffic and as laps wound down. Derrick Griffin slowly closed the gap then in turn two a lap car would slow Jeff down making Derrick go to the inside and taking the lead the last part of the race. It was Derrick's first win in a modified with building a car over the winter look for Derrick in victory lane this season. With the next race on May 3 at Angola Speedway and on May 4 at Springport Speedway it will be a big weekend the the ICAR Top Speed mods details of time will be posted soon.

Memorial Day found the ICAR Top Speed/Broaster Chicken Modified Tour at the 1/4 mile bullring of Spartan Speedway for a traditional Memorial Day race date for the mid-Michigan racetrack.A Huge Thank-You goes to Beacon Sales and Service for the additional sponsorship of the weekend. Thank You for coming on board and we look forward to working with you in the future as this exciting season unfolds.

27 Mods found their way to the pit area of the speedway and with the top 16 locking into the A main, B and C mains were ran to determine the rest of the field. It was 75 laps that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Local star Jon Ledwidge drew the #1 chip with Top Speed regular "Flyin" Brian Nester was his running mate on the outside.

The tight confines proved to be tricky to negotiate as Ledwidge and Nester got together in turn 1, resulting in a flat tire for the Spartan regular. Jordan Pruitt and Travis Eddy took quick advantage of the opening and headed to the front where they stayed the entire race. Several cautions before the half way flags worked the Top Speed officials to the point where the popular madhouse restart was abandoned and "Buster" the cone took the rest of the night off. Regardless how the restarts were lined up, two wide or signal file, Pruitt and Eddy put on
a great show. Then it was Eddy on the outside and Pruitt on the inside, with Pruitt finally taking his second win of the ICAR Mod season. His 1st win came at Angola Motorsport Speedway back on May 3rd. He was chased to the line by Eddy, Nester, Dan Loughan and Jim Butler who rounded out the top 5

June 7th is the next schedules stop in the series at Kalamazoo Speedway, join us and size up your talents with the best cars and starts of modified asphalt racing in the midwest.
